A Conversation with Ada Lip Beauty Founder
We’ve recently had the pleasure to interview Ada Hsieh, Founder of Ada Lip Beauty and talked all things beauty, lips and Wonder. We hope you enjoy our conversation as much as we did.
Hi Ada, I am so excited about this conversation with you. To kick things off, can you tell us more about your background and how did you start with your brand?
I am a self taught makeup artist with a penchant for high fashion editorial makeup and special FX makeup. This art form dealt with a lot of textures and chemistry. How different textures layer, playing with glue, wax, silicone, acetone, so these things made me think about what’s in our everyday regular makeup. The thing with lipstick is that we’re literally eating it with every bite and sip we take. I wanted to create something better that when ingested it wouldn’t wreak havoc on our bodies with all the bad chemicals.
Can you share more about your brand mission. For those who may not be familiar with the brand yet, what can you tell us about your ethos?
Our tagline is “Free your lips.” -not only from toxins, but also to free your lips to speak up for yourself and others. But how do we do that? Where do we find our deeper strength to speak up for ourselves and others? It’s a sense of worth and a sense of being in ourselves. We imbued each shade with a daily “I am” affirmation to do this so you can see it, wear it, and speak it.
What is/are the products from your line that you always carry with you?
“I am Perfect” is an everyday staple in my purse because it’s just such a natural and hydrating shade. I love it.
Can you share more about the product featured in the Ambrosia box?
Lip Rally was born out of a need from the pandemic. I didn’t want something where you have to keep double dipping your fingers into a pot to incur possible contamination. Lip Rally comes in a convenient chapstick form for a non messy, easy application. It hydrates and exfoliates at the same time for maximum efficiency.
What is your inspiration and creative process when you come up with new products?
I always try to think outside the box, if there’s a current product already, how can we do it better? I just love playing with makeup and trying new things, a lot of these inspirations and ideas come from being in the field and trying out new makeup looks.
The theme of our first box is Wonder – a feeling that we too often neglect in our busy lives. It encourages our desire to explore. When we selected the products featured in this limited edition box, we felt particularly inspired by the multi-sensory journey that each product provided. How do you feel the product exude this sense of Wonder?
Free your lips, baby, free your lips and remember who you are.
